Features
316LN is a low-carbon, nitrogen-alloyed austenitic stainless steel developed to provide greater mechanical strength than conventional 316L while retaining excellent corrosion resistance, toughness and fabrication characteristics.
Nitrogen acts as an effective solid-solution strengthening element, increasing yield strength while maintaining useful ductility. It also contributes to improved resistance against pitting and other forms of localized corrosion in chloride-containing environments.
The low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding and helps maintain resistance to intergranular corrosion. This characteristic makes 316LN particularly suitable for welded structures and components requiring dependable long-term corrosion performance.
Its combination of strength, toughness and corrosion resistance makes 316LN suitable for nuclear equipment, cryogenic systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and chemical-processing installations.
