Features
316Lmod is a modified low-carbon austenitic stainless steel specifically developed for severe corrosion conditions encountered in urea-production plants. Its composition and metallurgical structure are carefully controlled to provide reliable resistance to aggressive ammonium carbamate-containing process media.
Compared with conventional 316L, 316Lmod is produced with tighter metallurgical requirements for urea service. Low carbon content helps reduce sensitization, while controlled composition and ferrite content contribute to improved resistance to intergranular and selective corrosion.
The material provides good weldability and fabrication characteristics while maintaining the corrosion performance required for critical high-pressure urea equipment. Appropriate solution annealing and metallurgical control are important for achieving optimum service performance.
Typical applications include urea reactors, strippers, condensers, scrubbers, carbamate piping and other pressure-containing components exposed to severe urea-process conditions.
